Sara is an evolutionary geneticist studying the evolution of yeast sexual reproduction. Using a combination of comparative genomics and classical genetics, her research focuses on how the mechanisms underlying mating-type switching, mating, and sporulation have changed across a diverse range of yeast species. This work helps us understand how some yeast species become human or plant pathogens, and how we can improve other yeast species for industrial applications.
